A Family Affair – The Wines of Torres

Miguel A Torres transformed this family company into a global phenomenon and is now slowly handing over the reins to the fifth generation. Two of Miguel’s children are active in the business. Mireia studied chemistry and then winemaking at Montpellier University, she has been Technical Director since 2004. Her brother Miguel Torres Jr. was previously Marketing Director, launching the Celeste (Ribera del Duero), Salmos (Priorat) and Ibericos (Rioja) wines, and he is now Executive President of Torres Chile. Not an easy inheritance, perhaps, but for now the signs are certainly promising for the new generation at Torres.

It’s hard to imagine a more perfect wine to drink overlooking Dubai Marina or the Burj Khalifa. This wine is ideally suited for our climate as we head into summer. There are fresh and fruity notes of apple blossom and roses that linger in the mouth with a hint of sweetness that makes this a perfect match with spicier foods.

Torres Vina Sol AED 45

Another delightful wine from the Torres stable. The grape variety is Parallada, an indigenous variety that is finely balanced with some elegant mouth-watering acidity and ripe fruits of pineapples and pears. The finish seems to go on and on forever and whilst you may never remember the grape variety, the quality and taste of the wine will last forever.

Torres Sangre de Toro AED 47

Instantly identifiable by the bull on the neck tag, this wine is a true icon of the Spanish wine industry. Soft and velvety, rich and vibrant and very delicious, the wine is packed with summer fruits of boysenberry and plums with delicate notes of spice and liquorice. The tannins are soft and smooth.

Drink: Now Food: Pizza or full flavoured meats

Torres Coronas Tempranillo AED 49

Delicate floral notes sit on vibrant plum and strawberry fruits with hints of vanilla and truffles. This is a real food lover’s wine that has a fine elegant structure that evolves in the glass as you swirl it around.
