Lightning strikes twice as Le Clos and MMI launch Bordeaux En Primeur 2010

Cos D'estournelTwo historic vintages back to back? Early indications are that the Bordeaux vignerons have done it again, combining wine making prowess with Mother Nature’s gifts to create a symphony of structure and richness across the board.  Head of Fine Wine for MMI, Oliver Dixon, is in the region to take part in the exclusive L’Union des Grand Cru tasting in order to select those wines that will be offered through Le Clos and MMI on a futures basis.  Commenting on the vintage Dixon says, “The sheer number of variables involved in making truly great wines is huge, however having been fortunate to now taste the wines I can honestly say this vintage is a tour de force.  From the most modest estate through to the worlds most revered, quality is superb and will undoubtedly match recent historic vintages when mature, and in some cases eclipse them”.

The en primeur system has had a long history in the Bordeaux region providing wine lovers the opportunity to secure allocations of some of the world’s most exclusive and sought after wines, including Chateau Lafite, Latour, Margaux, Ausone and Petrus at pricing lower than future release to the general market, in essence buying the wines whilst still in the barrel.

The Le Clos website, will be the central portal for all en primeur information with regular updates on pricing, availability and tasting notes from our team of experts.  Visitors to the site will be able to register their interest via and then have one of the Le Clos personal wine advisors manage their account.  Head of Le Clos, Ben Odgers says, “We are fortunate to have a wealth of expert staff on hand 24 hours a day and after the huge success of the campaign last year look set for another bumper year”.

Le Clos was launched in October 2008 as a new luxury fine wine and spirits retail venture for Maritime & Mercantile International (MMI) and in October 2009 won Drinks International’s award for Travel Retail Operator of the Year.
