Glass tasting with Georg Riedel

Georg Riedel pouring from decanterGeorg J Riedel, 10th generation owner of the Riedel glass company made a rare appearance in Dubai to host a Riedel glass tasting session followed by a five-course dinner matched with fine wine served in Riedel grape varietal specific glasses, at Amwaj, in the Shangri-La, Dubai.

Georg Riedel was a charming and educational speaker and opened our eyes to the effects of glass on the taste of wine and, even local water.  For a write-up of the evening by one attendee read this account by Foodiva.

All guests at the dinner took away a set of glasses and Grapevine members who attended will also receive 15% off their next purchase of Riedel products at any Tavola showroom (until the end of June 2011)*.

To qualify for your discount on one transaction of Riedel glassware please supply your receipt from the dinner and your Grapevine membership card.

The wines that were tasted with Georg Riedel were:

Marimar Estate Pinot Noir – one of the Torres family vineyards

Circumstance Shiraz

Both of the above vineyards farm to biodynamic standards which Grapevine discussed with Anna Manchon from Torres on her recent visit to Dubai and Louis Boutinot from Waterkloof when he visited MMI.

Peter Lehmann Cabernet Sauvignon
